Mandarin Oriental Expands Italian Portfolio with New Rome Property

With the announcement of the construction of a new luxury hotel in Rome, the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group has increased the number of properties it owns in Italy to five. It is planned for 2026 for this new enterprise to operate within The Gardens of Sallust, a historic estate.

The hotel will feature 108 guest rooms and suites spread across ten 19th-century villas, which were once occupied by affluent Romans. The interior design will be curated by the award-winning Gilles & Boissier, ensuring a blend of historical elegance and contemporary luxury. Guests at Mandarin Oriental Rome will have access to six dining venues, including a rooftop terrace, al fresco dining options, and a unique stand-alone dining concept located within one of the villas. This variety of culinary experiences aims to cater to diverse tastes and preferences, enhancing the overall guest experience.

For wellness enthusiasts, the hotel will offer an extensive spa facility, which will include both indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a state-of-the-art gym, and six treatment rooms. Additionally, there will be a VIP treatment suite, thermal rooms, and a dedicated sundeck. These amenities are designed to provide a holistic approach to health and relaxation, aligning with the luxury brand’s commitment to exceptional guest services.

This announcement follows the confirmation of Mandarin Oriental’s first Sardinian property, Mandarin Oriental, Porto Cervo, which is also scheduled to open in 2026. Located on a hillside overlooking the Gulf of Pevero, this property will offer 83 rooms and suites, five restaurants and bars, a spa, fitness center, indoor and outdoor pools, and a beach club on Porto Paglia beach. The hotel will feature a private beach accessible via a picturesque 1,148-foot trail, promising guests an exclusive and serene retreat.

In addition to these new developments, Mandarin Oriental will re-open the historic Hotel Cristallo in Cortina d’Ampezzo as a Mandarin Oriental property next summer. This re-opening is timed ahead of the Milano-Cortina Winter Olympics and marks the first mountain resort in the brand’s portfolio of 34 properties. The Hotel Cristallo will offer guests a luxurious alpine experience with a nod to its historic roots. The Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group is renowned for its dedication to creating luxurious and memorable experiences for its guests. With the addition of the Rome property and the expansion in Sardinia, the brand continues to enhance its presence in Italy, offering unique and high-end hospitality experiences in some of the country's most beautiful locations.
