In a significant step toward improving care for veterans, Epic’s enhanced interoperability with the Veterans Affairs (VA) system is helping thousands of veterans access critical housing, food, and healthcare benefits. Since the connection went live in 2024, millions of patients have been screened, identifying nearly 100,000 veterans who may not have been aware of their eligibility for these vital resources. This seamless integration between Epic’s software and the VA’s system ensures that caregivers can automatically determine a patient’s veteran status, providing immediate access to benefits veterans have earned.
This collaboration between health systems and the VA is already making a real difference in veterans' lives, particularly through initiatives like the Promise to Address Comprehensive Toxics (PACT) Act, which supports veterans exposed to hazardous substances. Organizations such as Tufts Medicine and Sanford Health have spearheaded this effort, ensuring veterans receive timely care and access to community resources, especially in rural areas where healthcare access can be limited. With the ability to quickly identify and support veterans from the start of their care journey, Epic and the VA are working together to ensure that those who served their country can now receive the care and benefits they deserve.
