Grupo Mirgor and Meliá Hotels Partner for $50M Ushuaia Hotel

Grupo Mirgor, an Argentine company, has partnered with Spain's Meliá Hotels International to build a luxury five-star hotel in Ushuaia, Argentina, under the Gran Meliá brand. This project is part of Grupo Mirgor's broader business diversification plan and its focus on enhancing the economy of Tierra del Fuego. Meliá Hotels International, recognized for its sustainability in Europe, will manage the hotel once Grupo Mirgor develops it. The $50 million investment aims to create a premier destination for both corporate and cultural tourism, with completion scheduled for 2028.

The hotel will offer 200 rooms, two restaurants, an auditorium with an 800-person capacity, and extensive leisure amenities such as pools, a spa, and a gym. The initiative is expected to generate approximately 200 local jobs and stimulate the development of a supplier network for the hotel’s operations. Both José Luis Alonso, CEO of Grupo Mirgor, and Gabriel Escarrer Jaume, Chairman and CEO of Meliá Hotels, expressed optimism about the project. Gustavo Melella, Governor of Tierra del Fuego, also highlighted the positive impact such private sector investments would have on regional tourism.
