The iconic Nicolás Mihanovich Building in Buenos Aires, known for its lighthouse-inspired design, has been revitalized as Hotel Casa Lucía. Originally built in the 1920s and once Latin America's tallest structure, it served as a base for ship observation and housed wealthy immigrants. After years of neglect and a stint with Sofitel, the Spanish lifestyle brand Único Hotels, under founder Pau Guardans i Cambó, reopened the building as Hotel Casa Lucía in February 2024, with contributions from Torrado Architects and designer Fernanda Schuch.
The hotel preserves its Art Deco charm with checkered floors and gilded fixtures, while the 142 minimalist rooms combine bouclé furnishings and earthy tones. The on-site restaurant evokes Argentina's polo culture, and the pool area is enhanced by photography from Marc Zimmerman. Schuch notes the design reflects the grandeur of Buenos Aires between the 1880s and 1940s, echoing the elegance and sophistication of that era.
