ExxonMobil to Expand Recycling Capacity to 1 Billion Pounds Annually by 2027

ExxonMobil is making a significant investment in the future of recycling and sustainability with its expansion of advanced recycling capabilities. The company is committing over $200 million to enhance its operations at sites in Baytown and Beaumont, Texas, with plans to process up to 1 billion pounds of plastic waste annually by 2027. This expansion will add 350 million pounds of recycling capacity, bringing ExxonMobil's total to 500 million pounds per year. The investment supports ExxonMobil’s commitment to addressing the global plastic waste crisis by turning hard-to-recycle plastics into valuable raw materials, which can then be used to create everything from fuels and lubricants to high-performance chemicals and packaging materials. ExxonMobil’s advanced recycling technology, already proven at scale in Baytown, plays a critical role in supporting a circular economy and reducing landfill waste.

In addition to enhancing its Texas operations, ExxonMobil is continuing to develop advanced recycling projects across North America, Europe, and Asia, with the goal of reaching 1 billion pounds of recycling capacity globally. This effort is part of the company’s broader vision to tackle the world’s plastic waste challenge through innovation and collaboration. ExxonMobil’s work with Cyclyx, a joint venture created to improve plastic waste collection and sorting, underscores its role in driving solutions for circularity in plastic waste management. With demand for advanced recycling increasing across multiple sectors, including food-safe packaging and pet food, ExxonMobil is not only addressing environmental concerns but also helping customers meet their circularity goals, ensuring a more sustainable future for plastics.
