Nobu Beach Inn: Robert De Niro’s Vision Transforms Barbuda Into a Luxury Haven

Barbuda, the tranquil and understated sibling of the more popular Antigua, is set to shine with the imminent arrival of the Nobu Beach Inn, a venture spearheaded by acclaimed actor Robert De Niro. In a Caribbean region increasingly marked by overdevelopment, Barbuda remains a haven, offering visitors a timeless escape on its 62-square-mile expanse.

Accessing Barbuda is part of its allure, with the island's season spanning from November through July. Most visitors opt for a 90-minute ferry ride from Antigua, contributing to the island's sense of seclusion. Barbuda captivates with its kayaking and paddleboarding opportunities among mangroves, bird-watching at the frigate-bird sanctuary, and serene moments on its pink-sand beaches.

Robert De Niro, drawn to Barbuda's seclusion and deep connection to the land during his first visit 30 years ago, decided to make his mark with Nobu Barbuda. Launched in December 2020 on Princess Diana Beach, Nobu Barbuda showcases the Japanese-Peruvian culinary brand's excellence, with signature dishes like black miso cod and private cabanas with butler service at the beach club.

Building on the success of Nobu Barbuda, De Niro and his team are elevating the experience with Nobu Beach Inn. The full property, set to open in 2025, will feature two- and three-bedroom bungalows, each boasting a private pool, with most providing direct beach access. A select few VIP Nobu Barbuda guests are already invited to experience the exclusive two-bedroom cottage this season, offering a glimpse into the future luxury awaiting visitors.

Barbuda is undergoing gradual changes, including plans for a new international airport and the construction of an 18-hole golf course. Despite these developments, the island maintains its relaxed atmosphere, avoiding mega-resorts in favor of family-run retreats.

Barbuda Cottages, featuring eight villas perched on stilts over the pristine sands at Coral Group Bay, and Barbuda Belle Luxury Beach Hotel, a solar-powered property with eight identical Bali-constructed cottages, contribute to the island's blissfully unhurried ambiance.

De Niro expresses his hope that the Nobu Beach Inn will introduce others to Barbuda's unique blend of privacy and community spirit. His vision for the project is clear: "This project holds a special place in my heart. I want it to be that memorable destination that people come back to year after year." As Nobu Beach Inn unfolds, Barbuda is poised to emerge as a luxury haven, inviting travelers to experience the untouched beauty that has captivated one of Hollywood's iconic figures for decades.
