Montecito, CA Series: The Manor Bar Turns a Library Theme into a Full-Day Lounge

Lodge & Dine awarded The Manor Bar a 5-star rating for its polished lounge setting, attentive service, and cocktail program built around literary references.

The bar is a dimly lit lounge tucked inside the Rosewood hotel, with dark wood-paneled walls, plush velvet couches, and leather armchairs arranged around low tables. On one side of the room, tall windows draped in heavy curtains offer a view of the outside great lawn. A black grand piano sits near the windows, while the back of the space is dominated by a polished bar set beneath arched mirrored shelves.

On the cocktail menu, each drink is inspired by literary works, iconic characters, and authors. The Old Fashioned is made in the traditional style, with whiskey muddled with sugar, bitters, and a splash of water, leaving the drink spirit-forward without feeling diluted. If you’re skipping the booze, the Shirley Temple is a punchy mix of thick, sweet cherry syrup and ginger ale fizz. The prosecco is lean and dry, tasting mostly of tart green apple and melon with a tight carbonation.

The food menu mixes comfort items with more polished ingredients. The posh nuggets arrive with a heavy crunch from the fried breading, followed by tender chicken, caviar, and onion aioli. The diver scallop and sea urchin crudo is centered on a buttery, melt-in-your-mouth texture; the urchin is incredibly rich and is served with a Grenobloise sauce. For a simpler snack, the caviar and crisps provide a direct salt-on-salt hit, with potato chips balanced by cold whipped crème fraîche.

One of the more unique features of the bar is “Reading Hours.” From 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., the space transitions into a quiet spot for working or reading, stocked with a curated selection of books from Godmothers Bookstore. It’s a smart use of the room that makes the library theme feel functional rather than just decorative.

Service is highly professional and attentive. As soon as you are seated, staff provide complimentary bowls of nuts and olives. The Manor Bar earns its rating by being a space that actually works throughout the day, whether you're there for a quiet morning or a drink late at night.
